Resurrection Center is committed to its Summer Program for Children. Now, more than ever, this week-long residential "camp" experience for nine to twelve-year-old boys and girls seems to be a vital endeavor. The program is certainly for fun. It is also for something much more important - education in peacemaking. Children from predominantly African-American and Hispanic inner-city communities, and from predominantly white collar county areas, gather to learn about each other, to learn communication skills, and to learn simple strategies for peaceful conflict resolution. Each year it costs about $20,000 to pay the staff, feed and house the children, and provide supplies, materials and simple entertainment. Each year the Center ends up losing money from the Summer Program. Most of the children can't pay, or can only pay half the registration fee. Each year generous donors contribute enough to help keep the program afloat, but each year the Center ends up subsidizing the Summer Program to the tune of about $10,000. Any
donation you can send to Resurrection Center for the Summer Program for
Children, will be a big help. Perhaps you can help in another way,
as well. Director Jim Ivers, is looking for corporate sponsors, agencies
or foundations that would help to fund the Summer Program for Children.
Do you know or work for someone who would like to join the Center's mission
in this very concrete way? Call Jim at 815.338.1032. Help him
to connect generous donors with this worthwhile program.
